Space travel already being so complicated has now been noticed for causing Alzheimers! Alzheimer’s is a biological disease that slows or lessens brain function. Cosmic radiation exposure is to blame for this new discovery. Future Space travelers are to be worried about this new discovery of cosmic radiation. Cosmic radiation is only in space because the earth’s atmosphere protects all creatures, but when someone passes through the atmosphere, radiation is in effect. Cosmic radiation has been studied for many years, but is now being explained.
Studies show that cosmic radiation is caused by solar flares from the sun. With appropriate warning astronauts can be shielded from most radiation, but other forms of this cosmic radiation can’t be blocked. This cosmic radiation is only in existent in low levels, but still poses a threat to space travelers. NASA is concerned for their manned mission to mars, in 2035. Long periods of exposure to cosmic radiation can be very harmful. This discovery is new to us, but not NASA. NASA has been funding studies to see the effects of long term space travel.
High mass was the main focus of cosmic radiation study. This form of radiation is propelled at incredible speeds through space, from the power of exploding stars. This form cosmic radiation, since it is propelled at such speed, can go through solid objects, such as a wall, or space craft. With these radiation particles being able to transport through solid objects, it is a difficult task to engineer an effective protective shield. With new studies we can see the radiations effect on the human brain.

The animals at Brookhaven were exposed to concentrated levels of radiation, such as an astronaut would. The mice went through several memorization tests, and failed most tests.

I thought the subject of Alzheimer’s, and space was a very good topic to research. I decided to research more about space travel and how it can cause Alzheimer’s. What i found out was intriguing. Not only can space travel cause Alzheimer’s but it can also cause any type of brain damage. not only that but a study showed that 27 astronauts that were tested after returning from space, were found to have some type of eye or brain abnormality. I think that your report on space causing Alzheimer’s is really interesting. What can cause Alzheimer’s is many things. One cause of Alzheimer’s is can actually be age. From a website I found that one of eight people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s. Then one of 2 people has Alzheimer’s over the age of 85. The second factor is just plainly family history.
