Biological and Geological Effects of Fracking

Fracking is it okay or should it be more regulated. This is a touchy subject that is often discussed in heated arguments. In this blog I will be stating facts about fracking that will support and oppose it. Also weather or not it is ok.

The creation known as Hydraulic Fracturing otherwise known as Fracking made it so that natural gas or oil can be extracted or taken out of rock formation. But it also is a large danger to wildlife and to the environment. Some of theĀ  chemicals used in fracking can seep into the ground and destroy and make habitats unlivable and also toxic. It also seeps into streams and river banks making drinking water hazardous to all animals.

Fracking is the injection of chemicals and cores small rocks at high-pressure into rock formations to crack them open so that oil or natural gases can be extracted. Fracking is done underground at about three to fifteen thousand feet. This is where the chemicals could seep into unknown aquifers and streams. Fracking is done with little to none federal watch or regulation and can lead to over fracking. Some fracking companies are exempt from the Clean Water Act and also the Clean Water Act. Fracking can threaten our water, animals and also our land to grow and harvest food (National Wildlife Federation).800px-HydroFrac

Some of the ways that fracking is good is, it can help cut down on the use of fossil fuels and increase the use and production of natural gases that are also found in the ground formations. Hydraulic Fracturing makes it so horizontal drilling can be possible which leads to less of a footprint on the surface of the earth. It is also a way faster and more efficient way of collecting oil and natural gases. Studies show that From 70 to 80 percent of oil and natural gas wells that are drilled within ten years from now will require Fracking. It is also one of the only ways oil can be extracted from shale or other rock formations (Energy from Shale).

Fracking can be good and bad in a lot of ways. It is not good for the environment, but it helps our economy by producing more oil and natural gases making them cheaper and more efficient. There are also good environment affects like the use of natural gases is a lot better for stopping smog and also air pollution. So overall I am still two sided on the use of fracking.
