Coyotes letting Humans take over

Coyotes are they the most adaptable species? Well, studies show that they can almost adapt to anything that comes there way. Human society is one of them and being able to relocate for survival. Probably the most remarkable thing that scientist haven’t figured out yet is, the coyotes being able to adapt to Lyme disease.

Coyotes have adapted to human society for a long time since the Native Americans. The Native Americans had altered the surroundings of coyotes by changing the landscape which benefited the coyotes long before housing. Also, what benefited the coyotes was the altering of vegetation so it gave coyotes basically free food. Plus coyotes have altered their activity and space use in the response of humans. Another way coyotes are adapting to human society is when they take what they can get for food. Basically, coyotes now eat different kinds of fruits and melons. So, our human society has not only moved into the coyote’s home, but have invited them into ours. Also since the coyotes have adapted to urban areas studies have showed they are unlikely to attack people. Being able to adapt to human society coyotes can also adapt to being able to relocate for survival.

To see if coyotes could relocate for food scientists tested 16 captive coyotes. They tested them by first establishing an 8 naturally dominant-subordinate pairs in the guesser-knower paradigm. 8 coyotes were subordinates and the other ones were dominants. Subordinates would use a direct strategy to obtain their food with the dominate coyotes around. While the dominate coyotes used an independent strategy to obtain their food in the presence of subordinates. The research showed that subordinates relocated food and increased efficiency while alone. With the dominant though the subordinates approached the correct area but took longer to find. Same thing went with the dominate coyotes when alone but when they left the subordinate coyote they monopolized the resource. All in all it is saying that the different kind of coyotes found food better while alone. With being able to relocate coyotes can also adapt to Lyme disease.

Coyotes get the dreaded Lyme disease from the thinks they eat. The things that coyotes eat to get this disease are small rodents including white feet mice. Scientists haven’t figured out how they have adapted to it but know why they have become a big factor in Lyme disease know. Coyotes while they adapt to different environments take over what was once red foxes territory. Where the red foxes use to be that was where their prey carried the disease. So all in all when the coyotes would take over that area they basically asked for Lyme disease. Another one is coyotes eat red foxes so when they couldn’t find any so they would have to eat the disease carrying mice. Even though scientists haven’t figured out how coyotes adapt to the disease they know who a big carry of it is now.

In conclusion, those are different things coyotes can adapt to. Human society, when the humans would take over their territory and go with it. Relocating for survival and being able to find food for themselves even though that is kind of a born trait. Being able to adapt to Lyme disease the most common disease in the U.S. even though scientists haven’t figured out yet how coyotes can live with it.

  1. What are some advancements in the future for testing coyotes and how they adapt?
  2. Are coyotes going to let humans take over their all of their land?
  3. How could the guesser-knower paradigm get improved in the future?

  1. Before reading this blog I knew nothing of Coyotes and there adaptability. Coyotes being predators I would think that they wouldn’t be able to effectively adapt to the development of humans. It blows my mind that an animal like the coyote can strive in the presence of humans. Usually I hear that more and more animals are going extinct and it makes me happy to see that some animals can flourish. I believe that this was a very well written blog. However if you would like more information here’s a great site I think can help add more facts to your work.

  2. I thought this blog was interesting and found out more about coyotes. I didn’t know how adaptable they are to the environment. It’s very interesting situation on the Lyme disease the coyotes are getting and adapting to it.
In the future can we could find ways to test them without putting coyotes in different environment and test them on survival skills and how much they eat.
Coyotes are really letting humans take it over but they are adapting to the new humans being in the environment. There have been many reports on coyotes eating pets. You can’t let your pets outside alone now in areas where coyotes are. Some reports say that family dog was attacked while in a fenced yard. Wildlife experts explained this could happen because coyotes often dig under the fence and can jump a 7-foot fence. Building bigger and fences isn’t going to solve the problem either.

The guesser-knower paradigm could improve in the future by the people who working on it have more knowledge of the project. The technology used for it could be improved or just use it for better use. More organization on the project could improve the results from it. Better understanding could be improved like understanding the thoughts or what the coyote could be thinking about. It also could be improving with longer studies of the coyote and being closer to the coyote. Just trying new methods could improve the guesser-knower paradigm.

  3. I thought this blog was very interesting because I like to go coyote hunting sometimes and I know some things about coyotes but I didn’t know that they can get Lyme Disease. I knew they can get a lot more diseases like rabies but i had no clue they could get Lyme Disease. I went found an article about predators like coyotes and found out that mouse ticks that are on deer can give a predator Lyme Disease if they kill and eat the deer. I also learned that people blame the deer for this disease but it’s actually the mouse ticks that are bringing it to the deer. Overall, I thought that this article was very interesting and I got to learn a little more about coyotes and hoe they get Lyme Disease.

Coyote’s ability to hunt for their food is not a born trait. They have to be taught how to hunt by their parents.

You made comment in your blog that Coyotes get “free food.” Coyote’s food is never free, even in altered habitats. They have to hunt for their food.
