Methamphetamine: What does it really do to the Human Brain?

Central_nervous_system_svgMany people know how harmful drugs can be for your body, but what most people don’t know are what it actually is within the drug that is harming your body and making you addictive. Methamphetamine is an extreme case of a harmful drug. This is one of the most addictive drugs out there. Not only is it addictive, but like most drugs it is harmful. So harmful that your brain becomes so confused it is almost impossible to function properly. Meth use has many effects on both the central and peripheral nervous systems. When the chemicals of meth are ingested these systems don’t work correctly which gives you the “high” feeling.

Methamphetamine destroys many things in your brain but the most important thing that it hurts is the central nervous system. This nervous system is when your brain tells you if you feel good or you feel bad. This system will also tell you if you should do something again and keep repeating it because it was a good thing. If you did something bad and you know it this part of the brain will remember and tell you to not do it again. By smoking or snorting meth this part of the brain will malfunction, when this part of the brain is not working you will get the high feeling. After you are done with the high feeling your brain then tells you what you did is a good thing only because it felt good. Now that your brain tells you it is good means you will keep repeating use of the drug and keep feeling good. This is why once you start Methamphetamine you are destining to destroy your brain and potentially your life.

Your nervous system is the most important things in surviving. If you start usage of methamphetamine it will completely destroy this part of the brain. This means that your thoughts, feelings, and emotions are all ruined. It affects it in such a way that it almost becomes impossible to function. With consumption or use of meth you will ruin many parts of your brain. The nervous system is just one of these parts. Meth users describe experiencing high with meth as a great feeling for several minutes. What they don’t know is that this actually lasts for about 6 to 12 hours. All drugs of abuse because the release of dopamine, this is a hormone that tells your brain that you feel good and you get that high feeling. With meth the levels of dopamine released are higher than any other drug that is used regularly. This is why meth is one of the most addictive drugs that you can try.

Meth users that continue to use over and over again actually will change the chemistry of their own brain. In addition to affecting mental abilities, these changes in brain chemistry can lead to very horrible and violent behavior. Meth addicts have many episodes of depression. Sometimes there anger can build up so much in them that a lot of casualties to suicide are caused by the use of Methamphetamine. This drug which is also a stimulant releases high levels of adrenaline. This increases anxiety and the need to be moving and alert. Although this may sound like a good thing it is not. With these dangerously high levels of anxiety a person goes through rapid mood changes and side effects. This is when the depression will settle in. Meth users often have obsessive issues with hyperactive behavior. If something does not go their way or if something is misplaced their anger rises to a level that can be harmful to many people.

Methamphetamine can do many things that are harmful to your health. The most detrimental thing will be that it ruins your nervous system. It is even worse than that because once you try it for the first time you get hooked. The consequences with meth can vary anywhere from high levels of anger to depression at the point of suicide. If you do start meth these affects and consequences will happen to you, your body, and most important of all your brain.
