The Future And Past Of Prosthetic Limbs

Prosthetic limbs are mildly expensive tools that allow the body to replace a missing limb, such as arms or legs. They are a technological advancement that has been around for many ages. In the early ages they were simply wooden arms attached to your stump and that was it. You wouldn’t be able to move it because it’s made of wood!

 A ok

In this day-in-age, most prosthetics are able to move by attaching your nerve ending to the wires on the plastic-metal limb. Thanks to robotic limb research lots people have been able to walk and lift normally again! But it’s not as simple as that, there are some difficulties in the way, it takes a lot of rehabilitation and practice to get used to the new limb. But how is this possible? Surely there’s no way we can just attach a prosthetic limb onto our stubs, and with a little practice, have everything back to normal?

Well, in some cases the limb responds to the good leg’s movements with a sensor attached to the ankle. In the case of an arm much developing has been done to allow the user to connect the brain to the robotic arm and make it move with one’s every thought. It’s not in the final stages but it’s pretty darn close! Man, it must be great for them to be able to move again!

In the futuristic game Deus ex machina, humankind has taken biologic technology to the next level. Regular people have upgraded themselves to become super-humans capable of punching walls down and running faster than motor-vehicles!

That’s not the kind of prosthetic I’m talking about today but it is interesting to think that we’re so close to becoming cyborg like robo-cop (Except maybe less machine than robo-cop…) ISN’T THAT AMAZING?! WE’RE ON THE BRINK OF A TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLOUTION AND DON’T THINK THAT’S COOL ENOUGH FOR YOU??

Well alright, I guess you just aren’t in the mood for science today…And that’s okay, you know, if robotic arms that are so precise that they can type and crack eggs doesn’t get hyped for science I really don’t know what will. But if you are interested in it, then that’s great! I hope you find what you’ve been looking for.

In the future, what will prosthetic limbs look like?

How will they work?

Will we all be able to “upgrade” our bodies or just those who have lost things?

Prosthetic limbs are really amazing and scientific. A while ago if you lost a limb it was like the end of the world. Now with technology if you lose a limb you can continue to do what you love. Every day tasks are still possible and you can continue your life. Prosthetic limbs can move like human limbs and do almost all of the same motions and activities. Even though it takes time to get use to the new limbs it do agree with Madisonelspring14 that it gets better everyday. With even more scientific information I think people could view prosthetic limbs as better than human limbs even more! They can even allow humans to run faster and add some spring to their step. Don’t fear prosthetic limbs because they don’t hold you back but they do take a lot of work to learn how to use the sensors correctly.

  2. Prosthetic limbs have made tremendous progress in the last ten years or so. Due to the advancement in robotics technology, it is now possible to construct prosthetics that are able to perform natural movement that humans do. People that have to get limbs amputated, now have hope for a more successful outcome. This is because of prosthetic robotic limbs that can be controlled by nerves and your human brain. Without this industrial revolution, people would still be walking around today with partial limbs, or being pushed in a wheelchair. These amazing inventions now are both powered with knee and ankle joints. You have the option of buying heavy, or lift prosthetic limbs. They also may have different sizes, looks, and colors to them.

  3. This is a very interesting topic to research because not long ago, if you lost a limb, that would be tough luck for you. Now, if you loose one or are born without one, it is still possible for you to live a normal life. Soon, I believe that people will start to modify these prosthetic limbs in a way so that it could be almost beneficial to have one. Also, this technology could be used to better protect people and/or animals. For people, the SWAT team and NASA could do more without risking the lives of others. For animals, we could help animals with deformities that could end up being fatal. http://www.militaryaerospace.com/articles/print/volume-24/issue-10/special-report/prosthetics-meet-robotics.html

  4. It’s crazy just how much science has evolved. People are now able to do tasks that they were unable to do before. Scientists are closer than ever to developing prosthetics to act like our arms and legs, and other things. Our arms do so much more than imagined. They are strong and they are able to create exquisite art. This technology has made us able to get a new leg, a new body part. As mentioned earlier, this tool is amazing and continues to develop. It will not be to soon until we really can further our research. That really is amazing.
