What is medical cannabis? You probably know cannabis by a different name. Cannabis is a drug more commonly referred to as Marijuana. Medical marijuana is a crude drug composed of the leaves and flowers of plants in the genus Cannabis. The history behind this drug is very interesting to me. Along with its history there are many uses as well as many different names. Many people wonder whether or not the use of medical marijuana should be legalized.

Medical marijuana is most commonly used as analgesic (pain killer) and antispasmodic agent. The ingredient in the drug responsible for the painkilling affect is tetrahydrocannabinol. This reacts with our bodies receptors to produce the effect of no pain. Along with providing relief from pain, it can help with the management of spasticity, nausea, anorexia, and even seizures. The effects of the drug all depend on how much of the drug you take and how long you take it for. Some other things that may have an effect on the outward effects of the drug include the environment in which you take it and the experience the user has.

It is even been known to be added to foods and beverages. Marijuana is more often put into pipes and cigarettes by being crushed or dried.

The cultivation, possession, and consumption is illegal in the US as of now. But the use of it for medical reasons is allowed in some states. As for other countries, it is allowed for medical proposes in some European countries, and yet it still remains illegal in UK. One of the issues of making marijuana legal is the fact that it is very controversial. The lack of standardization of products that ensure safe and consistent dosing and fighting over the legalization of the drug are reasons of why it is not legal. Although many drugs are available for pharmaceutical use, these drugs are based off of the drug cannabis. Do you think it should be legalized?

  1. I feel if doctors prescribed medical cannabis as a drug to help pain in patients that are having a extremely hard time with pain tolerance, I believe it would be an OK thing to do. However, some people are very good at getting what they want, so that could potentially become a problem and might cause threats. You asked in a question about what some side effects could be to taking medical cannabis and in my own research it was hard to find what the medical side effects were. However, I did find that if you smoked marijuana that it can cause heart and lung problems, with brain damage in the mix too.
Medical cannabis does help diseases to a certain extent but nothing greater that what doctors prescribe now. It does help with therapeutic patients, and in some countries they use it for oral repair. Nothing that regular medication can’t fix but I suppose we should leave our ideas up to doctors. You should check out this website, its where I found my information and found it very useful to answer your questions. Maybe you can learn even more!

  2. Your blog was very informative. I never realized how many medical reasons that marijuana is used for. But I hope everyone who reads this is aware of the many effects marijuana has on the body. Many people become addicted physiologically after taking this drug because of the way it makes them feel. Some side effects could include anxiety attacks, fear, panic attacks, confusion, and no self control. Many people have also been known to develop “Amotivational Syndrome”, which is when someone withdraws from activities and has impaired judgment. Some long term effects could include damage memory, speech, reading comprehension, problem-solving ability, and reaction time. But, Though all of the side effects are very threatening it has been proven to relieve nausea caused by cancer treatments. Overall very good research. I enjoyed reading.
