Music and Its Effects On People

brain“It’s like the brain is on fire when you’re listening to music,” says Istvan Molnar-Szakacs, a neuroscientist at the University of California, Los Angeles. Music effecting the brain has been studied throughout the years. Studies have been shown and experimented that music stimulates multiple parts of the brain all at once. It has also been tested that music enhances your feelings. Last but not least music therapy is another thing that is used for adults but also kids and kids with autism.

First of all music stimulates multiple parts of the brain all at once. When listening to music you like and prefer it increases your connectivity in your Default Mode Network. In your DMN which is located in the frontal part of your brain when you’re listening to your favorite type of music your thinking is enhanced. Research has been done and it is proven that musicians you practice and grow up with it are excelled on musical task.

Secondly when you listen to music it can enhance your feelings or what you’re already feeling. Soft and gentle music often are played to make little kids sleepy so they feel calm and relaxed. Upbeat and powerful music is played usually at games such as football to increase your adrenaline. Teen depression groups sometimes even pick out a favorite song tell each other how it makes them feel.

Playing or listening to music has been proven to help people with autism. Asked by teachers about their students that are in band said the behavior and listening skills are better than when not involved in anything music related. Kids with autism were asked how they feel about it and they often would say it gave more confidence that they weren’t that different from everyone else. When the parents were asked they said that they’re more able to control the outburst and feelings.

All in all music defiantly effects people and there brain. Music can stimulate many parts of the brain at once, enhance people’s feelings, and help people with autism. Should music be used and played more often? Will music be used more in the future? Does music open up and help create more of an imagination and understanding? A quote once said by Plato “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”
