How oil is affecting our planet

Do you think oil is having more negative impacts on our world then positive impacts? I do, there has been way to much natural disasters because of oil. Also when people burn off oil, it releases carbon dioxide which is causing global warming. I have picked 3 negative things that has been caused by oil, the BP oil spill, , and the Kuwait oil spill.

The BP oil spill is known as the worst spill in America history with it spilling between 17 and 39 million gallons of oil. Brown Pelicans and Northern Gannets are on the endangered list now because of the oil spreading into their habitat. Over 150 endangered sea turtle washed up on the Gulf of Mexico beaches dead covered in oil. The total cost of the cleanup of the oil spill is aproximently $40.2 Billion dollars and is still rising. Therefore we should not drill oil because it makes a catastrophic impact on our environment and economy.

global warming is also affecting our planet. When oil is burned off it re.leases a gas called carbon dioxide which heats up the earth. We have released so much carbon dioxide into the air that the glaciers are melting because of the planet getting warmer. As a result it will flood much of the coastal lands and islands on Earth. This is why we should stop using oil so we don’t have to deal with global warming.

The  Kuwait oil spillwas another disastrous event that released millions of gallons of oil that killed tons of plants and animals in the gulf. One example of a plant dying in the area was coral. Coral is now extinct in that area because of the oil and many other species will die because they rely on coral for shelter. All in all every time there is an oil spill, there will be a chain link of bad events following it such  as extinction.

In conclusion we need to stop drilling for oil. I gave you 3 very bad natural disasters that could be prevented by not using oil. If we stop using oil and start using more renewable energy such as wind energy, I think that will make a greater impact on our world than drilling for oil. Therefore we should never use oil again because there are tons of different renewable sources that are clean and a lot safer to use.

1.What do yout think the government should do about the extraction of oil in the U.S, should we stop it or keep using it?

2. What is your oppionion about the extraction of oil?

3. In what ways do you think we could help safety in the process of trying to get oil so know more disasters happen?

  1. I agree with your blog, oil spills have had a huge impact on the world in the oceans and on land. Oil is becoming a major event everyone is talking about, and not all the stuff they are saying is good. Oil spills in the ocean kill thousands of animals and damage wild life refuges. On land spills are not always the problem but oil does have major effects on the ecosystem because of pollution and the affect it has on the ozone layers. Lastly the extraction of oil is a negative thing because we are taking too much out of the land then it can naturally take. Here is some more information on oil spills and the negatives of oil extraction. http://www.fuelfreedom.org/the-real-foreign-oil-problem/

  2. I think that you did a very good job with your blog. Oil is becoming a big deal in this country creating natural disasters and causing us to pay a lot of money for it. I think that we should use the oil for important things only like spaceships or something, but for now with cars, we can use other natural recources like water. My oppinion about the extraction of oil is that we should not be using as much but i dont think we can just stop using it because it has become an important part of our country. Helping the safety process would start with drilling on land and not in the ocean. if we drill in the ocean we have a high change that we are going to polute the water or cause longer lasting effects on the world.
