How Do Video Games Affect People?

Video games can affect the brain in good or bad ways.  Some video games are violent and some are educational, but these video games will still teach you something even if they are not educational.  All in all these video games will change your brain in either positive or negative ways.

The positive ways video games can help you are awareness of surroundings, memorizations, and simulations (in some games).  In some games, simulations are good.  Trying to keep something alive, like a pet, or getting a job in a game or some of the ways they are good.  If you have a dog in a game, then you can learn how to keep them alive in the game and also learn how to keep them alive in life.  You can memorize the game if you play it enough, if you keep memorizing different games, your memory will keep building.  In games where you need to shoot or something inside the level keeps changing your awareness increases.  In shooting games people will be from different angles of the screen, so you need to keep glancing around the screen.  If you do not do this you will be killed.  If the level is changing you need to be watching very closely to any changes that happen.  Video games can also affect you negatively.

Obviously video games do a bit to your mind.  Violent games can cause people to think that what happens in the game is what will happen in real life.  The may believe that if they do something that happened in the game, nothing will happen to them.    In games with words that are not so appropriate, you may grow accustomed to using those words.  After playing games that are very difficult you may be angrier.  This is because the anger that you have in the game, may come with you in real life.

All in all, people believe that video games can be a big problem.  Video games can be an educational source too.  People may say that video games can be horrible, but what I’ve learned that it can also teach people good things.

How can other games aside from violent games affect you negatively?

Can educational games be a source of education at school?

Can violent games affect you positively?

  1. This topic is very interesting to me. I always knew that video games could have a negative effect on the developing brain of a child but I never knew that it could lead to increased physiological arousal, increased aggressive thoughts, increased aggressive feelings, increased aggressive behaviors, and decreased prosocial helping. These are just a few of the things that I learned after farther researching the topic and they where very surprising to me. After reading your article about video games and reading the article I found online. I now realize that violent games can cause serious problems and lead to problems more than just having a bad view of the world around you.

  2. violent video games could affect you positivly by making you more aware of your surroundings such as small little bad things that are adding up to something big such as people acting weird in a area and their all in a close ratius. could also make you more aware while you are driving to little things people are doing while they are driving or cars turning out of a driveway, turning from a blind spot, and like a deer in the middle of the night.

  3. Video games have both a negative and a positive effect. When little kids play video games they mostly play one that has violent things and swearing in it. People who play games have an anti-social aspect and they don’t do very much. If the game is not violent and there attitude is bad then it might be there environment and not the game. I think that educational games can be used in school, if they are approved by people. Some violent games can affect you positively, just by playing violent games can change the way the person thinks and dose around the house and around his/her town. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/positive-effects-of-video-games.html

  4. This topic got my attention fast i harly knew video games can have those effects on you but i knew that Playing video games change the brain’s physical structure the same way as do learning to read as you keep reading your brains develope reading skill just like the samething goes for writing, but after reading your blog and this other article i found in the internet got me think about, is there really a negative thing about playing games i know sometimes you want to mimick the things that happen in the game but is it really a negtive thing. personaly i think educational games will be a good idea to have at school, becuase nowadays every class you go to kids are already talking about how they just beat the hardest game ever or how they just got the newest game. If kids are already intersted in games teachers and princples should use it has an educational tool to keep kids from falling asleep and keep them intersted in the subject.
