The toll of Schizoprenia

Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that affect those around age 16 to 30 and is known to have affected kids. It is not as common as many other mental disorders but its symptoms are just as damaging. Patients with Schizophrenia are known to lose touch with much of reality and control of emotions and feelings. The symptoms with Schizophrenia are divided into Negative, Positive, and Cognitive symptoms. Those experiencing negative symptoms have a sort of abnormal behavior with normal emotion. This includes slowness of actions and mixed emotions to everyday life and subjects. Positive symptoms are psychotic behaviors not seen in normal people. These include hallucinations, delusions, dysfunctional thinking and body movement. Cognitive symptoms differ within patients but are most recognizably loss or change of memory. Patients may have trouble concentrating, learning information, and understanding information. These symptoms can be damaging to a person’s mind and behavior, but those with Schizophrenia have many options to treatment.

Treatments for Schizophrenia varies like the symptoms within the diseases. The treatments also focus on the process to eliminate symptoms because the cause of the disease is yet unknown. One method of treatment includes medications called Antipsychotic, which is taken as a daily or monthly dose. Another form of treatment is psychosocial treatment, which include learning to cope with the disease so you can pursue daily life choices. Coordinated specialty care is a treatment that puts everything from therapy, family, medication, supported education, and even employment to fight the disease. These treatments are the latest way to help individuals with the disease and has been for a long time now.

Current research is making a big way to further discoveries to the disease. Current treatment is now being based on the dopamine level of Schizophrenia. This research shows that dopamine dysfunctions if the main reason for symptoms connecting to Schizophrenia. From this information we know we are closer to better treatment for the disease. I believe Schizophrenia is a very interesting topic and discovering research for it broaden my horizon upon the world of physiological disorders.
