Polar bears going extinct?

Polar bears live in then polar north in areas where they can hunt seals. Polar bears are found in the U.S., Russia, Greenland, Canada, and Norway. Scientists have found that there are 19 populations of polar bears living in different regions in the North Arctic. Polar bears have a thick coat of insulated fur which helps them stay warm year round. Since the polar bear has white fur they camouflage easily with the snow.

Polar bears are in danger of going extinct due to global warming. Since global warming started to occur it is taking away the polar bears ice caps and home. When this happens the polar bears don’t have enough time to hunt for them and their children. In 2004 scientists that four polar bears have drowned by Beaufort Sea. This happened from the retreating ice and rougher seas. In regions like in the Hudson Bay, Canada there is no ice during the summer months and the polar bears have to wait until the lake freezes in the winter to hunt or even eat.

A new study showed that two- thirds of the world’s polar bears could die by 2050 as global warming progresses to melt the ice caps. There are up to 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears living throughout the north. This means by 2050 there could only be about 8,000 to 10,000 polar bears left, making them closer and closer to extinction. In Russia during the summer many polar bears have been left stranded on land. In the Hudson Bay area warm spring weather leads to rainfall casing their den to collapse on its self. Without the ice many polar bears are unable to reach their prey and must live long periods of time without food.

There are many ways that we can help the polar bears in their struggle against man and global warming.  You can help by riding your bike and walk more than taking a car. Use energy efficient appliances and turn your appliances off when not in use. Generate your own power with wind and solar power. Only use as much water as you need not more than needed. Buy and cook only what you’ll eat. Purchase fruits and vegetables grown locally. Most importantly reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Polar bears are going extinct from global warming which is being caused by humans so it is our job to help the polar bears live their life. If the polar bears died out it would have a monumental impact on the world. If the polar bears did die out it would mean fish and seal population would increase, which means even more would die. Making the whole thing a terrible situation, this is why we need to help and protect the polar bear population.
